Here at Minicarspares, we explain how to replace the rear brake calipers on your Ligier or Microcar microcar. This method primarily applies to Ligier models (JS60, JS50, Ixo, JS RC) and Microcar models (M.Go, Due, M.Cross), but it is very similar when replacing the brake calipers on other microcars like Chatenet, Aixam, Casalini, JDM, Bellier, and more.
Tools required:
-
10mm spanner
-
12mm spanner
-
Adjustable wrench
-
Flathead screwdriver
-
Brake caliper
-
Equipment to lift the car
-
17mm socket for removing wheel nuts and rims
Rear brake caliper replacement:
-
Start by lifting the car and removing the wheels.
-
Next, disconnect the brake hose located under the vehicle.
-
Use the 12mm spanner to remove the rear part of the brake caliper.
-
Remove the brake caliper itself (wait to disconnect the brake hose until later).
-
Before installing the new caliper, we recommend removing the brake pads and pushing the piston back. You can do this by pressing the piston back while rotating it with a flathead screwdriver.
-
Install the new brake caliper and securely fasten it using the 12mm spanner.
-
Place a container under the brake hose before disconnecting it from the old caliper, which can be done with a 14mm spanner.
-
Remove the brake hose from the old caliper and attach it to the new one.
-
Install new banjo seals and tighten the brake hose securely to the new caliper.
-
Open the bleeder valve with an adjustable wrench and let the brake fluid flow until no more air bubbles appear.
-
Repeat the same procedure on the other side. Once done, you have successfully installed two new rear brake calipers on your Ligier or Microcar.

Safety:
Whether it’s a microcar or any other vehicle, it’s essential to ensure the braking performance is as efficient as possible to avoid serious consequences. A few seconds or meters can make a difference in preventing a collision. For optimal braking power, we always recommend renewing the brakes simultaneously—meaning it's important to replace both brake calipers for balanced and effective braking performance.
