Guide – how to replace the drive belt / variator belt on a moped car

Replacing the drive belt or variator belt on a moped car is part of standard maintenance, and it usually needs to be replaced multiple times during the vehicle's lifetime. If you're wondering how to replace the drive belt / variator belt on your Ligier, Microcar, Aixam, Chatenet, or Casalini moped car, here's a guide on how to quickly and easily replace the drive belt! Follow the steps below to replace the drive belt / variator belt in the fastest and easiest way, saving you a lot of time!

Step 1:

On the side of the secondary variator (the variator mounted on the gearbox), there are 3 holes, one of which is a threaded M6 hole furthest from the gearbox, as shown in the image.

Step 2:

Find an M6 bolt that fits into the hole as shown in image 1. Screw it into the variator as shown in image 2.

Step 3:

Screw in the M6 bolt until the variator on the gearbox starts to split, as seen in the difference between images 3 and 4.

Step 4:

Remove the old and worn-out drive belt / variator belt from your moped car, and install the new drive belt once the variator is mounted on the moped car and unscrewed as shown in image 4.

Step 5:

After the new variator belt is in place, unscrew the M6 bolt again.

Step 6:

Now you can drive your moped car again!
