How to Perform an Oil Service on an Aixam with a Kubota Z402 Engine – Change the Oil and Filter on Your Aixam!

Here at SCP Mopedbilsdelar AB, we explain how to perform an oil change on your Aixam 400, 500, A721, A741, Scouty, Crossline, City, Crossover, Coupe & GTO equipped with the Kubota Z402 engine, including how to replace the oil and oil filter on your Aixam microcar. Oil service with filter replacement and new engine oil should be carried out every 5,000 km or once a year, whichever comes first, according to recommendations.

What tools and spare parts do you need?

1. Jack and axle stands, or alternatively a car lift to access underneath the microcar.

2. 14 mm socket wrench

3. Oil filter for Kubota Z402 & Z482 – available here!

4. Drain plug gasket – available here!

5. Engine oil (1.8 liters required for the Z402 engine)Note: For newer Aixam microcars with the Kubota Z482 engine, you need 1.6 liters of oil.

6. Other service parts for your Aixam can be found here!

How do we perform the oil change?

1. Start by lifting your Aixam using a car lift or alternatively a jack, then secure the vehicle with axle stands so you can work safely underneath.

2. Remove the engine guard under the engine. These are usually secured with plastic clips/plugs. If they break during removal, you can find replacement clips here!

3. Remove the oil drain plug with a 14 mm wrench and collect the old oil in a container. The plug is located at the back of the engine.

4. Reinstall the oil drain plug once the oil has drained completely, using a new drain plug gasket!

5. Unscrew the oil filter and let any excess oil drain into the container.

6. Install the new oil filter in the same way, remembering to lubricate the filter gasket with a little engine oil.

7. Remove the oil filler cap and pour in 1.8 liters of engine oil for the Kubota Z402 engine, or 1.6 liters for the Z482 engine, using a funnel (preferably with a filter to avoid dirt getting into the new oil).

8. Check the oil level with the dipstick. If the level is correct, reinstall the filler cap.

9. Reset the service light by following this guide.

Your oil service on your Aixam microcar is now complete – and you’re ready to hit the road!
