Does your minicar display the wrong gear on the dashboard?

The problem is most likely caused by faulty micro switches connected to the gear lever of the microcar. These micro switches are used to "tell" the car whether it is in D, N, or R. If the system does not function properly, it may cause the reverse warning to fail or prevent the car from starting because it "thinks" it is in D or R.

Micro Switch for Ligier and Microcar

Due to the type of construction used on Ligier and Microcar models, this issue is most common in these brands. You can easily solve the problem by replacing the micro switches. There is one on each side of the gear selector, but to access them, you need to remove the gear assembly from underneath the car while it is lifted or on stands. It is recommended to replace both. Here’s how:

  1. Remove the heat shield located under the gear assembly from the car’s underside (you may need to move the exhaust pipe slightly).
  2. Unscrew the bolts securing the gear assembly from underneath, and remove the gear knob inside the car by loosening a screw on its backside.
  3. Carefully lift out the gear assembly from the car.
  4. You can now disconnect the connector and replace the micro switches.
